ASICS Institute of Sport Science, East Building — an R&D office with an indoor track

In Hyogo, the East Building of the ASICS Institute of Sport Science opened in 2015. Inside the building runs an all-weather track, and there are communication spaces on skip floors. Everything below is based on the design-build company's official page.

Introduction

A sound mind in a sound body

The official page says the design took its cue from the founder's philosophy, “a sound mind in a sound body”.

Bridges improve movement around the whole site including the existing buildings, with a skeleton design, an all-weather track and skip-floor communication spaces.

Glass fins in traditional colours

The façade uses glass fins in traditional Japanese colours inspired by the corporate colours.

What is a skip floor?

A layout where floor levels are offset by half a storey and connected.

The East Building has communication spaces on its skip floors.
